I don't know about you, but I prefer encouraging words to discouraging ones, positives messages to negative warnings. And as we turn the corner from 2008 to 2009, the media is full of discouraging, negative reports. We hear them everywhere, and if we aren't careful, we'll begin to believe them-and to live accordingly.

Does that mean none of those negative messages are true? Of course not. Many of them may be-and worse. But bad tidings and doomsday warnings should not dictate the tenor of our hearts or the fulfillment of our calling.

There is a common saying among Christians that we have "read the end of the Book-and we win!" There is no greater ending to any book than that very positive truth, my friends. Howeverif you've read the entire Book (and I certainly hope you have, many times over!), you know that we are not promised a problem-free existence in this world as we await that victorious final chapter.

And that's where the fear comes in. We let our focus drift from the final outcome to the temporal circumstances, and we forget that it's not up to us grit our teeth, pull ourselves up by the bootstraps, and somehow overcome impossible trials and challenges. God is the One-the only One-who can carry us through, safely and victoriously, to the end. And He has given us all we need to hang on to during the ride: the blood of the Lamb, which paid our price for sin and restored us to relationship with the Father; the ability to proclaim the gospel to all who will listen; and the perfect love that flows from the throne of God and melts away the fear of death with the promise of eternal life with Him.

That's all we will ever need, beloved. Regardless of what the world might throw at us in this New Year, we have the promise and the provision of God that enables us to look past the temporal and into the eternal, to keep our eyes fixed on the Prize and our hearts yearning for heaven. Nothing here can begin to compare for the things God has prepared for us once we pass from this life to the next. So rejoice in the New Year, my friends; don't be discouraged by negative reports, and remember, the best is yet to be! - 15784

When you talk with a close friend, you will probably hear their story. Almost everyone has had a break up in their past, and when you share your feelings, one with the other, you will find it is very healing. Hearing how others have gone through what you are going through makes it easier. And while a break up is serious, you will also learn that it is not life ending or even life defining. You may even, in time, be able to laugh at yourself.

Dwelling on the painful split from your lover will not help you, so instead you should work on getting better and moving on, which will allow you to stop dealing with break up pain and start dealing with moving on and finding someone new, perhaps even someone that has a better dynamic with you.

* Life is not bad. You are not a loser. Get rid of these negative thoughts. Write out a gratitude list -- be thankful for the good things in your life. List your good qualities; you have them!

Your friends will probably realize that you're going through something serious, and they will more than likely dedicate themselves to trying to help you through the break up pain. If this is the case, don't blow them off, because going out and spending time with your friends and the people that you care about will be extremely helpful.

Sure. Break up pain is hard. But you will survive. The key thing is to allow yourself a brief period of mourning and crying, and then talk it out and get rid of it. The most difficult thing for most men to do is know when to go in for a kiss when a date is winding down. The more experienced you become with women, the easier this is, but if you're getting back into the dating scene or you're new to dating, knowing when to go in for a kiss can be difficult.

Just remember that knowing when (and if) a woman is ready for you to kiss her comes down to one thing - careful observation.

You need to be aware of the woman's body language and behaviors, because these will be the things that give you the clues to proceed.

Here is what to look for:

1. Check your gut feeling on how the date has gone. If she has clearly not enjoyed herself and does not appear into you, a kiss is not in the cards. If the attraction is not already there, she will not be head over heels for you if you suddenly plant one on her.

2. If you're not quite sure on the status of things -- for example if you can't really tell if her reluctance is due to shyness (but she likes you) or disinterest -- then you need more data. Subtly try to initiate some physical contact.

3. Stand a little closer to her and see if she backs up or allows you into her personal zone. Casually initiate touching her by putting your arm around her waist. If she hugs up on you a little, that's a great sign! If she cringes, she's probably not comfortable enough with you to kiss.

4. Make direct eye contact, smile, and look at her reaction. Does she smile back and seem to enjoy looking at you? Does she appear uncomfortable and looks away, refusing to hold eye contact? If she goes along with what you're doing, she's in rapport with you. If she's not, then you haven't built up a strong enough connection yet.

The point I'm trying to hammer home here is this: you CAN figure out her emotional state by putting her into situations where she can't avoid sharing some body language signals about her feelings -- either negative or positive.

When you've figured out the situation is right to go in for the kiss, then don't try anything fancy - simply square up to her and just kiss her. Don't try and sneak it in, or trick her into letting you kiss her. Do everything very deliberately.

Remember - the key here is confidence! Even if you're a bag of nerves about kissing her, you'll want to try and appear as confident as you can. A meek, hesitant kiss is a big turn off. You need to show her your intentions when you go in for the kiss!

Whatever you do, NEVER ASK a woman if you can kiss her! That ruins the magic of the moment. Pay attention to her body language and see if you're getting the green lights to make your move. If you're not getting the right signals, don't push it! Back off, because you have to create more comfort with her before you can proceed.

If you make your move at the appropriate time, and do it assertively yet smoothly, then you'll score some big points. Living in a culture that worships at the altar of money, people can find it difficult to view success with God at the center. This is a critical point to fully comprehend, however. What God will reveal to us, if we listen to Him, is that true success is to love Him and to love others as He loves them. Success for a Christian is glorifying His life by the way we are living ours.

It can seem counterintuitive in modern Western culture to believe that by yielding to God, we can actually achieve greater success. The more control we give Him, the more He rewards us. If we listen to Him, He will show us that the only way to achieve this type of success is through humility. Humility is somewhat difficult to learn and to define, but when we see it in someone else's life, we know it instantly. They live for the Lord and not for themselves.

To think about how to live in humility, one could think about the humility of a child. With that type of humility, we will be filled with child-like enthusiasm and be eager to be led and instructed by the Lord. With such an attitude, we will be teachable, moldable, and willing to change.

Humility is what brings the right balance into our lives. Instead of thinking that we can handle things without God, or feeling unworthy to walk with Him, we recognize that our life in Him is all His grace. When we have that right focus we are yielded to the Spirit and walking in a right relationship with God, and in turn, we grow more in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus.

A good way to think of it is to imagine God holding your hand, teaching you His ways as you walk beside Him. It takes the humility of a child to not get ahead of the Lord and to listen and to trust Him to set the right pace. It also takes humility not to lag behind Him and to remember that in His grace, He forgives our unfaithfulness and even forgets our transgressions as we come back to Him, and allow Him to continue to lead, guide, and direct us. God recognizes that this childlike quality of humility is not possible for us to develop on our own. When our hearts are hardened by our sinful reactions to life's circumstances, we forget how to accept God's helping hand. Yet the Lord welcomes us in our sorrow and repentance with open arms of love, and bestows upon us all the blessings reserved for His children. Once you have put your faith in Jesus as Lord, He is there to teach you what it means to live a life of humility as you purpose yourself to let Him take the wheel of your life.

If you are finding that despite your efforts to control every aspect of your life, you are not finding the happiness and peace you seek, the answer can be found in learning humility. By opening your heart to Jesus and walking with Him, and by turning your life over to Him, you can reach heights of success you never imagined.

My Hebrew Learning Experiences - From AlefBet to Talmud

In 1990, I was planning a trip to Israel, but it got postponed due to Desert Storm and the Gulf War. I finally go on a tour trip of Israel in 1996. But in the late 80s, in Oklahoma, before the internet, how does one begin to learn Hebrew?

That was in the dark ages before internet. Audio Forum had a language catalog, and I learned about the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) courses. These courses were created by the US government, and used to teach either military or diplomats.

Although the FSI course came with about 24 tapes, I still have never completed it. The type-style is ugly, and the course was clearly not made for self-study, but instead was made to be taught in a classroom environment.

I remember being "wowed" by a huge Borders book store on a business trip to Indianapolis. Back then, the stores were all huge, typically two stories, and they had a wide selection of books - meaning a few book on Hebrew. I found a primer or "reader" that taught the Hebrew alphabet in a very step by step fashion, with lots of practice exercises.

I began learning more and more prayer book Hebrew by attending synagogue. Each week, certain tunes would stick in my mind, and I would go home and try to learn the words to go with the tune. Music and singing definitely helps with the memorization.

Mansoor's book "Biblical Hebrew: Step by Step" was a good introduction to the Hebrew of the scriptures. Later, a group of us studied Weingreen's "Practical Grammar for Classical Hebrew", which took us about two years doing one or two lessons per week.

For Modern Hebrew, I remember using "Hugo Language Course: Hebrew in Three Months" and also Eliezar Tirkel's "Every Hebrew". Both came with a book and 3 or 4 cassettes. I like the Hugo course slightly better.

In 2005, I registered for Hebrew IV and V via an online course offered by Hebrew College in Boston. It used the text "Hebrew From Scratch - Part II" (with 5 CDs available). Even though I audited the course, it was required to submit homework weekly, and meet with our teacher online for about 45 minutes per week. Later, I went on to take other classes, which include an introduction to Aramaic via the Talmud, and classes that required reading Medieval Hebrew (such as aggadic literature).

I still feel that I have just scraped the surface of learning the beautiful Hebrew language. By creating courses and teaching classes for others, I have continue to learn more each and every day. - 15784
