I pretty much have to admit that, just a few months ago, I really didn't like going to fairs. I never quite had the guts to go on fair rides, but I'm okay with watching from a distance away. The general atmosphere of these kinds of events are always lively and fun, and while I go home a bit tired, I end up with a satisfied feeling whenever I go to bed after an excursion to the fair.
Fairs weren't this much fun before, though. Not for me, at least. When I was a teenager, I experienced a rather embarrassing breakup in which my first ever boyfriend decided to dump me right there and then in front of everyone. No need to tell you details, but I can tell you it was pretty mortifying.
That said, you can understand my disdain for all fairs now.
Then, just a few months back, one of my friends from college needed some moral support. She was setting up a booth at a fair, and wanted someone to be there with her. Right then and there, I decided to be an adult and face my fear. After all, how can I be dumped if I don't have a boyfriend at the moment?
I decided to just go for it and try attending a fair again after that fiasco the last time I was at one. And I have just discovered, I love fairs! So many interesting and lively sights to see, so many beautiful and worthwhile things to buy. But in the end, what really got me excited was something I thought I almost lost: My youth.
I watched my friends doing her charcoal artworks, and it reminded me of an old passion I once had: wood carving. It was a passion I inherited from my grandfather, and the booth at the fair allowed me to awaken my artistic side again. Chances are, you'll find me selling my crafts at fairs these days. - 15784
