A Romantic Dinner for Two

By Jana Banks

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, it's a great time to be planning a nice romantic dinner. Many people opt to go out for a fine dinner, but you can also create a wonderful romantic meal in the comfort of your own home. The beauty of enjoying a home-cooked Valentine's dinners is that there are no reservations, no waiting in line, no crowds, and it's easier on the wallet.

It can be a lot of fun to create a romantic atmosphere at home. First let's start with the table setting. A beautiful ivory linen tablecloth is the perfect palette for a romantic table. You can create a centerpiece with fresh flowers in glass vase surrounded by some fragrant votive candles or tea lights. Make sure your glassware and place settings are sparkling and that you use linen napkins as well. Oh, and don't forget some quiet romantic music as well.

When it comes to the meal itself, it can be as simple or as complicated as you'd like. If you're a very good cook you can go wild and cook a 7-course meal if you'd like. However if cooking is not your strongpoint or you'd like to take it easier, then go with a simple menu that features a few special items cooked to perfection. Start with a tasty appetizer; serve a main course that includes a few side dishes and finish off with a dessert coffee or tea served with a decadent treat for the celebration.

It's generally easiest to base your menu on the entre that you'd like to make. If you're both fish or beef lovers, then maybe you'll want to serve grilled tuna steaks with sides of herbed potatoes and fresh roasted veggies or a tender steak with side dishes of roasted red potatoes and sugar snap peas. Perhaps you're more in the mood for turkey or chicken. Then you can make a delicious roasted chicken dish with some delicious lemon asparagus and herbed risotto.

Dessert doesn't have to be homemade, especially if you don't enjoy baking. You can pick a delicious dessert from your favorite bakery to enjoy. Choose something special and attractive, like a decadent chocolate truffle cake or some scrumptious creamy Cannoli dusted in powdered sugar. If you do enjoy baking, then by all means make your own dessert. Pick one of your "no-fail" favorites or try a new recipe from your favorite cookbook.

To be able to enjoy your dinner, it helps to get as many of the tasks out of the way long before your company arrives. If you can do some of the food preparation and table setting done the day before, even better. You deserve to enjoy this day and keep it as hassle-free as possible so you and you have a romantic, enjoyable, memorable Valentine's Day. - 15784
