Including Bridal or Wedding Shower Favors is Important

By Aaron H.

The maid of honor is bound by custom and tradition to host a bridal shower for the soon-to-be bride. Other people sometimes take on this task, but traditionally, it does fall on the maid of honor. It doesn't really matter who hosts the event. It is important, however, to remember to order bridal or wedding shower favors to thank the guests for attending and for bringing such nice gifts to the bride.

Originally, a wedding shower was a time when the friends and families of the bride and groom would come together to shower them with gifts of things that would be helpful in setting up their household. Today's bridal showers are handled a little differently. Generally only the female friends and family of the bride come to this type of party and give her gifts that are more personal rather than items for the home.

The ladies present often play games and participate in activities to make the event fun for everyone present instead of just sitting around watching the bride open up gifts. Many hostesses will have some extra bridal or wedding shower favors on hand to be awarded as prizes to the winners of these games. In this way, the ladies in attendance are encouraged to participate and have a good time. Some of the favors available for bridal showers and some of the games played can tend to be a little flirty, but a lot of fun. Others are calmer and more elegant.

Not all wedding showers are limited to the ladies only. Occasionally, the best man will work with the maid of honor to put together a wedding shower where the groom and his friends and family are invited to attend as well. Gifts at this type of shower are usually more geared toward the couple and the household than personal the way they are at the all female variety of bridal shower. It is still important to include wedding shower favors as a show of gratitude from the host and hostess to those attending.

There may also be games played at a wedding shower with mixed company. Though probably different from what usually takes place at a bridal shower, wedding shower games are intended to be fun for men and women alike. If wedding shower favors are going to given as prizes for the winners, it is important to include some extra items of a more masculine nature so that the guys are not embarrassed by what they win if there is a male winner.

Bridal and wedding shower favors are available in a wide array of items and themes. Some are decidedly feminine and some are more masculine. Many lie in the middle and would be appropriate for a male or a female. These items should be included as gifts to thank the guests for coming and as prizes to be awarded to the winners of the games played at the shower. - 15784
